His initial career choice was to be a teacher but had his mind changed by his university lecturer while he was studying at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg. In 2010 Muckensturm became the artist in residence at the Boribana Museum Of Contemporary Art in Senegal. Whether it is a large scale painting or a fine aquatint print, Muckensturm describes his work as an exploration of 'non-colour' and figurative abstraction. The varying scale of shapes can evoke a degree of moods from tranquility and calmness to magnitude.
