Pablo Picasso is the most famous, versatile, prolific and influential artist of the 20th Century. It was something that he wasn’t shy in acknowledging: When he was a child Picasso’s mother said to him: “If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general. If you become a monk, you’ll end up as the Pope. ” To which he later said: “Instead, I was a painter and became Picasso. ” Although he lived the majority of his adult years in France, Picasso was a Spaniard by birth, hailing from the town of Malaga in Andalusia.
